Historic Provenance
Sotheby's, 18 October 1988, lot 631; Gordon & Sue Guy-Jones Collection. Four examples of this model have been recorded with the embossed mark 'Bristol' and these are listed by Ray Jones in his survey of Limehouse, Lund's and early Worcester wares, see The Origins of Worcester Porcelain (2018), pp.358-9. One is in the A J Smith Collection in Bristol Museum and another is in the Museum of Royal Worcester (formerly in the Caldwell and Dyson Perrins Collections). The other two are illustrated by Geoffrey Godden, Blue and White, pls.127 and 128. All of these appear to be cast from the same mould as the present lot, the neat embossed mark leaving no doubt that they were made before the manufactory moved to Worcester.
