Description
A rare Bristol porcelain coffee cup, from the Fry service, with harebell-moulded ear-shaped handle, painted in delicate pale "dry blue" enamel by William Stephens with a flower spray and scattered flowers, beneath a basket-moudled band, gilt line rim, circa 1775, blue painted X mark and numeral 5. See FS Mackenna, Plymouth and Bristol Porcelain, number 96, for the cream jug from this service, probably made for Joseph Fry, Quaker friend and financial backer of Champion.
